Our Youth Department
We coach young people of various age groups. Experience shows that 6-8 years is a good age to start table tennis. However, some basic knowledge is desirable and necessary to participate in training. Since table tennis is a very “fine motor skill” sport that requires a lot of patience and concentration, you will quickly realize if it’s the right sport for you.
If the youngsters don’t have equipment yet, that’s no problem. We always have a few test rackets available, and nobody needs to bring balls anyway. Depending on their skill level, the youngsters are welcome to participate in matches in appropriate performance classes, but certain basic skills are required for this. To test this, we invented our “Table Tennis License.” These are simple exercises with ball and racket, and ultimately the serve as a basic prerequisite. If all exercises are mastered, there’s a certificate, and participation in matches is possible.
Detailed information about youth training can be found here and contact persons under Contacts.
We have set up a WhatsApp group specifically for the youth department. Current and relevant information about matches and training will be published here. Upon request, we will add the youngsters, and their parents if they wish, to this WhatsApp group.
Insights into Our Training Philosophy
In every sport, COORDINATION EXERCISES are an important component, and this applies greatly to table tennis. Various basic skills are required, which we teach through playful exercises, both in individual training, with obstacle course exercises, and with the robot. The exercises often cover several training goals simultaneously. To explain this practically, here are some examples:
BALANCE ABILITY – e.g., running an obstacle course while simultaneously balancing or bouncing the ball on the racket…
DIFFERENTIATION ABILITY – Fine-tuning individual movement phases through exercises such as knocking down cans or shooting into a placed net.
RHYTHM ABILITY – Grasping and implementing a given rhythm (robot) – tempo changes, run/hit/run – doubles play with the robot to coordinate running paths – concentration on ball placement and length, as well as the optimal point of contact (highest point of the trajectory).
REACTION ABILITY – Changing movement sequences based on signals (e.g., clapping) – fast/slow stroke changes or forehand/backhand on signal.
ADAPTABILITY – Adjusting to changed conditions – changes of direction with the robot – ball length or spin/speed – tactical adjustments in practice games – conscious selection of various serve techniques and placements in conjunction with the return.
COUPLING ABILITY – Coordinating movement sequences for each stroke with special concentration on feet, legs, torso, hitting arm, wrist, and of course, the gaze/concentration on the ball.

Double match day for the first and second youth teams of TSV Mindelheim with a tournament atmosphere
With four youth teams competing in the small E-Halle, the Mindelheim table tennis youth teams’ doubleheader almost took on the character of a tournament. The TSV Mindelheim’s first youth team delivered a successful home performance in the District League B. They secured a convincing victory against SpVgg Langerringen, confirming their strong form as last year’s promoted team. Sebastian Wucher and Sebastian Peter laid the foundation for the win in the doubles match. With a dominant 3-0 victory against the Langerringen pair, the duo put Mindelheim in the lead. The Mindelheim team then displayed remarkable consistency in the singles matches. Sebastian Wucher, Sebastian Peter, and Stefan Wucher all delivered strong performances, winning two of their three singles matches and only conceding defeat to the visitors’ number one player. After approximately two hours of play, a well-deserved 7-3 victory for TSV Mindelheim was secured. With a decisive set ratio of 23-11 and a clear point differential, the hosts underlined their superiority.
The TSV Mindelheim second youth team, also promoted last year, secured a 5-5 draw against SC Blau-Weiß Ettringen in the Under-19 District League C. In the opening doubles match, Gabriel Kobold and Sabber Md narrowly lost the first point to the visitors after five hard-fought sets. After losing the next two singles matches, the visitors were already leading 3-0. Then the second youth team’s top player sparked a turnaround. Gabriel Kobold subsequently won his first two singles matches, as did Sabber MD and Noa Jakljevic in their second singles matches, putting Mindelheim suddenly ahead 4-3. Ettringen, however, immediately leveled the score, and after Noa Jakljevic narrowly lost to Ettringen’s top player after a valiant effort, the score stood at 4-5 in favor of the home team. However, Gabriel Kobold kept his nerve in his last match and secured a clear 3-0 victory, resulting in a deserved 5-5 draw, which was also underlined by the almost even ball ratio.
Youth 2: Away Victory in Unterrieden
With a perfect points tally, outstanding individual records, and a cohesive team performance, the TSV Mindelheim youth team had a truly impressive season. Leonhard Wagner’s performance was particularly outstanding, as he was in top form this season. With a flawless record, he was the only undefeated player in the entire league – both in singles and doubles with Gabriel Kobold. This made a statement and earned him the title of strongest player in the league rankings. Stephan Wucher also played a significant role in Mindelheim’s success, proving himself a reliable substitute. Normally playing in a lower league, he achieved the third-best record in the league with 10 wins and 1 loss!
Crushing Victory with 10:0 and 30:4 Sets
Despite constantly changing lineups, with new players being used throughout the season, the team presented itself as extremely stable and tenacious. Noa Jakljevic deserves special mention, as his consistently strong performances throughout the entire season secured him first place in the overall player rankings for the league. Despite the defeat in the final match, the team’s overall satisfaction with an outstanding and successful season clearly prevails. After ten intense and demanding match days, the team secured the runner-up position in the District League D – and with it, the right to promotion.

The youth team of TSV Mindelheim 1861 II delivered an impressive performance in District Class D Group 2. At SC Unterrieden, the Mindelheim team celebrated a clear 10:0 away victory, consistently showing strong performances at the tables.
Maximilian Schmid and Noa Jakljevic already set the course for victory in doubles, before no one could seriously threaten the Mindelheim players in the subsequent singles matches. Noa Jakljevic, in particular, once again impressed with his dominant play and remains undefeated this season – he clearly continues to lead his league’s singles ranking. His teammates Paul Bertram, Maximilian Schmid, and Sabber MD also showed nerves of steel and joy in playing, resulting in a well-deserved 10:0 victory.
With this result, TSV Mindelheim II solidifies its second place in the league standings and confidently looks forward to the upcoming matches.
In the subsequent top singles matches, Schmid and Jakljevic extended their lead to 4:0. The hosts from Bad Wörishofen then managed to narrow the gap with two wins, before Noa Jakljevic secured the fifth point for TSV Mindelheim with his second singles victory, thereby already guaranteeing a draw. Although Bad Wörishofen gained hope with two more wins, Paul Bertram kept his nerve in the decisive match and established the final score of 6:4. With this away victory, the second youth team of TSV Mindelheim once again underscored its strength and excellent team spirit.

The second youth team of TSV Mindelheim celebrated an important 6:4 away victory in District Class during their match in Bad Wörishofen. With the lineup of Maximilian Schmid, Noah Jakljevic, Paul Bertram, and Simon Scholer, the quartet presented itself focused and cohesive from the start. Already in the doubles, the Mindelheim team laid the foundation for the later victory. Both Schmid/Jakljevic in Doubles 1 and the reigning club doubles champions Bertram/Scholer emerged victorious – thus, the early 2:0 lead was perfect.

With a slightly altered lineup compared to the 6:4 victory last week against Bad Wörishofen, the second youth team of TSV Mindelheim celebrated a narrow but deserved 6:4 away victory against TTC Hasberg in District Class D.
Strengthened by the new number 1, Gabriel Kobold, the doubles already brought excitement. While Paul Bertram and Simon Scholer narrowly lost their match, Gabriel Kobold and Noa Jakjevic ensured the equalizer. In the singles, Gabriel Kobold and Noa Jakjevic, in particular, delivered strong performances and contributed important points. Both remained undefeated in doubles and singles that day, laying the foundation for the second consecutive away victory.
Paul Bertram, as in the previous week against Bad Wörishofen, once again contributed the final winning point for the 6:4 score. He kept his nerve in the decisive last match against Sebastian Ahne and sealed the deal especially with his strong serves. He won confidently with 3:0 sets, and the hard-fought 6:4 victory was secured.

Review of Season 2025_1
After both youth teams were promoted last season, the primary goal for the new season was to maintain their league status. Due to various factors, the 1st youth team unfortunately only played one match of the season with a full squad, and the level was too high for the substitutes from the 2nd youth team. Thus, remaining in a strong District Class A was not possible. The number 1 player, Jeremias Kobold, had already successfully played for the senior teams parallel to the youth league, and he will reinforce them next season.
The 2nd youth team fared better, securing third place with great enthusiasm and fighting spirit behind the two strong teams from Langerringen and Ettringen, who are also promoted. With a total of 7 players, some of whom gained their first experience in competitive play, they can celebrate their successful retention in District Class C.
With an average attendance of 15-20 young people born from 2014 onwards at each training session, the youth department will again be represented by 2 teams in competitive play in the new season.
