Summer Team Cup 2025 – Our team of 6 motivated players take on the challenge

For all table tennis players who can’t stay away during the long summer break, there has been the so-called Summer Team Cup for 5 years. It always takes place nationwide after the end of the past season. The Summer Team Cup is often used by many teams as preparation for the new season. “Die Mindelheimer” compete with a team of 6 players, with a team of 3 always playing in alternating line-ups.

Conclusion of the STC 2025

A great event during the long summer break, with opponents from other districts and leagues. Our team takes fifth place in the final standings, with the certainty of being able to keep up with the top teams. After all, they only narrowly lost both times against the two leading teams in the table with 3:4.

Victory and defeat can be so close - Fifth sets decide the match

The last match of the STC round once again showed how close victory and defeat are in table tennis. The 6:1 defeat against Wertachtaler, a combined team from Türkheim and Amberg, reads clearly at first glance. But if you see that 4 encounters ended in the fifth set, three times with 11:9 and one with 12:10, the supposedly high final result is put into perspective. Ultimately, only Timo Schütt was able to score the consolation point, and that confidently with 3:0 against the number 1 of the hosts.

Simon Hacker undefeated – One set decides the match

In game 5, we played against N-Kaiser, a combined team from Hohenpeissenberg, Schongau, Thalkirchen and Dachau. The guests had arrived as undefeated league leaders and were therefore the favorites in the match. After the first round of singles and the doubles, the score was 3:1, with the Mindelheim duo Pechhold/Alf only narrowly losing the game to the guests in the fifth set with 11:9. Only our strong number 1 Simon Hacker was able to counter and won his single after a clear 11:1 in the fifth set. He was also the one who confidently won his second game in 3 sets and reduced the score to 2:3. Thimo Böhm fought sacrificially against his higher-class opponent, but after a 1:1 set equalization, he had to give up the game in the end. After Eduard Alf was able to win his second single with a strong performance, it was unfortunately a narrow 3:4 defeat in the final result.

Summer Team Cup 2025 – Strong performance against top team

In the 4th round of the Summer Team Cup, the Mindelheim team, consisting of players from the Kreisligen, had a tough nut to crack. They played against the team from Dösingen with 2 players from the Bezirksoberliga, who had also played in the Landesliga, and Vanessa Hartl from the Oberliga team of TSV Herbertshofen. On paper a clear matter, but the first singles already showed that “Die Mindelheimer” knew how to defend themselves.
Timo Schütt initially had a hard time getting into the game and was 0:2 sets behind before he got into gear in the third and shortened the lead with a clear 11:4. With a bit of luck, he could have forced the deciding set, but lost the fourth in overtime 15:13. The many narrowly lost sets in overtime should be decisive in the course of the match. The next two singles both went into the decisive 5th set and while Simon Hacker was able to win, Folker Königbauer had to give up the point with 13:11. The subsequent doubles was then without a chance for “Die Mindelheimer” and it was 3:1 for the hosts. So a overall victory for Mindelheim was still within the realm of possibility.
How close a seemingly clear 6:1 defeat can be from a surprise was shown by the last 3 singles. Simon Hacker lost narrowly in five sets after a great fight, Timo Schütt lost all his sets in overtime (10, 11 and 11) and Folker Königbauer after a 1:1 in sets (9:11 and 11:9) the last two again in overtime with 13:11 and 12:10. So in the end you were unfortunately left empty-handed. Nevertheless, all in all a very good team performance with the certainty of having a chance even against higher-class opponents. There could actually have been more in it …

Summer Team Cup 2025 – Wolf-Dieter Pechhold becomes match winner

The third game in Finning was a small return for veteran Wolf-Dieter Pechhold, who played in the neighboring village of Schorndorf for many years. Against the number 1 from Finning, Folker Königbauer initially had to admit defeat in the deciding set with 11:9, but Timo Schütt and Wolf-Dieter Pechhold ensured a 2:1 lead before the doubles with their victories. After a dramatic 18:16 for the Finning duo in the first set, Schütt/Königbauer equalized with a clear 11:3, but then lost sets 3 and 4 narrowly with 11:9 each. It went into the second round of singles and while Folker Königbauer gave his opponent no chance, Timo Schütt had to fight hard and finally lost in the fifth set. At a score of 3:3, “returnee” Pechhold had to go to the table, a game at a high level with some top-class rallies. Wolf-Dieter Pechhold finally won his second single, secured the 4:3 victory and became the match winner.

Summer Team Cup 2025 – Unlucky and narrow defeat in the 2nd game

After the first singles, Mindelheim led 2:1 and the doubles was coming up. A seemingly safe 2:0 lead was unfortunately not enough and after losing the 3rd set, the guests got better and better into the game. The Mindelheim duo could no longer counter the consistent attacking game of the Buhn brothers and so it was 2:2. With a 3:0 victory, Simon Hacker brought his team back into the lead and despite great resistance, Thimo Böhm had to allow the equalizer against the higher-class opponent. The decisive game of veteran Wolf-Dieter Pechhold was like a roller coaster ride. After being 0:2 behind, he won set three with 11:1 (!) and was already leading 9:5 in the fourth, the 5th set seemed within reach. But a few controversial balls in favor of the guests turned the match around and in the end the set was lost in overtime and the guests took the victory home.

Summer Team Cup 2025 – "Die Mindelheimer" start successfully into the tournament

In game 1, SG Peiting/Peissenberg/Schongau was a guest. The first singles were hard-fought and while Timo Schütt won his match, Simon Hacker and Folker Königbauer were unlucky. With an unchallenged 3:0 victory in the doubles then the equalizer. The following singles were then hardly to be surpassed in terms of excitement and drama. Simon Hacker fought his way into the 5th set after being 1:2 behind, which he finally decided 18:16 for himself after several match points on both sides. No less exciting was the match of Folker Königbauer, who had to deal with long pimples. After a 2:1 set lead, he already had two match points at 10:8 in the fourth set, which he could not use, however, and also had to go into the deciding set, which he won in the end with nerves of steel and experience with 11:9. The strong Timo Schütt increased the score to 5:2 in the end and remained undefeated.
